An emergency forces four hundred thousand people from Fujian and Zhejiang
The typhoon “Seagull” that inflicted heavy loss on the central and southern parts of Taiwan (Taiwan called it Ka Meiji), has been downgraded to a tropical storm and on the nineteenth, at four am, entered the territory of Taishun Zhejiang Province. There was an emergency transfer of more than four hundred thousand people from Fujian and Zhejiang Provinces.
Zhejiang Provincial Meteorological Observatory said that the impact of “Seagull” on Zhejiang is strong winds and coastal-based rainfall. The eye of the storm is moving at ten kilometres per hour to the north.
It is reported that Fujian Province was affected by both the “Seagull” and the combined effect of cold and hot air; heavy rain and downpours in most cities and counties. Over twenty-one towns and cities had more than one hundred millimetres of rainfall. Fujian Provincial Meteorological Station warned that due to the impact of “Seagull”, disasters in Fuzhou and Ningde are likely to occur; each area should be alerted to the heavy rain that may trigger landslides, mudslides, other geological disasters and urban flooding.
