Human Rights advocate Huang Qi formally arrested by the authorities
Recently, the Chengdu Public Security Bureau issued a formal arrest warrant to the family of Huang Qi, who is the chief of the ‘June fourth Justice’ website. The officials on site denied the request of Huang’s family to meet the lawyer. Several rights advocates who had voiced their support for Huang have also been suppressed. Chengdu police seized the computer of rights activist Huang Xiaomin of Chengdu City without sound reason, and has not returned it so far.
Huang Qi’s mother, Pu Wen-Qing went to inquire about her son on the eighteenth of July again at Wuhou District branch of the Security Bureau, where officers issued a formal arrest warrant on site.
Pu Wen-ching, said:
“I think Huang Qi has been detained for an extended duration, as he was taken away on tenth of July, so I went there seeking an explanation. After saying that, I was given an arrest warrant, announcing Huang Qi’s official arrest, charging him with illegal possession of state secrets. ”
According to a source, Huang Qi who founded “June fourth Justice Website”, has been engaged in China’s human rights issues, safeguarding rights for the disadvantaged grass-root people. After May twelfth Sichuan earthquake, Huang had been actively involved in disaster relief activities, and accepted complaints of families of school victims who perished in the rubbles of the shoddily constructed school buildings. On tenth of June Chengdu authorities detained and arrested him.
