The Dalai Lama refused talks with CCP over aspirations
Recently, the Dalai Lama has turned down proposals by the Chinese Communist regime, to give up any aspirations of Tibet’s independence, in exchange for talks on Dalai Lama’s future status.
A press release from the Dalai Lama’s secretary points out that recent media reports have quoted CCP officials as referring to the Tibetan issue as a matter of personal interest for the Dalai Lama. The Tibetan government in exile seeks to clarify, that the problem in Tibet is the wellbeing of six million Tibetans, and not the Dalai Lama’s individual interests.
The article also mentioned, back in nineteen eighty one, the CCP presented five recommendations in regards to the Tibet issue, and suggested the Dalai Lama enjoy high ranking political status and privileges, if he returned to Tibet. Yet at that time, Dalai Lama had already expressed that the Tibetan people’s were of greatest concern, not himself.
Furthermore, the press release indicated that the exiled Tibetan government had been pushing for democracy, and the Dalai Lama does not wish for Tibet’s social environment to return to the years before nineteen fifty nine. Since the Tibetan government in exile resumed dialogue with the Chinese government, the Dalai Lama has expressed this same viewpoint every time.
