Sixteen police officers killed in hand grenade attack in Xinjiang

According to Chinese state media, two hand grenades were thrown after two vehicles crashed into the Kashi border armed police division in Xinjiang province. This attack left sixteen police officers dead and another sixteen injured. Two suspects have been arrested by police, and the crime scene is now under strict martial law.
According to local residents, the attack occurred around eight am local time, while the military police were out on morning training. He said fire-fighters and police were mobilised after the attack. The resident commented that in the lead up to the Olympics, local security checks have been increased with all goods related to the Olympics, subject to two open inspections and morning and evening patrols by police.

One local rights advocate expressed that the defiant public has reached a point where violence is adopted with no regards of consequences. He commented that societal conflicts has reached a critical stage and can only be eliminated with serious fundamental reforms.
