Parents of a one-year old boy in Henan Province, who suffered kidney stones as a result of taking San Lu milk formula, have filed a lawsuit against the San Lu Group – the first lawsuit related to the China toxic milk crisis.
The parents of baby boy “Xiao Tao,” are seeking compensation in the order of 150,000 Yuan from San Lu Group to cover their medical and commuting expenses as well as loss of working time.
China’s State Council mandated that all hospitals are to treat free of charge children who fell sick as a result of taking toxic milk formula. However, according to “Finance” magazine, Xiao Tao is being treated at Beijing Children Hospital where free medical treatment is offered only to those affected children who required medical attention on or after 12th September when the Melamine-contaminated milk crisis was exposed.
In related news, reports have been uncovered which allege that on the eve of the Olympic Games opening in Beijing, San Lu Group had requested local officials to help cover up the problem of the toxic milk.
According to China Daily, a Shijiazhuang Municipal Government spokesman said that on August 2nd San Lu Group wrote a pleading letter to local officials, requesting help to control exposure of toxic milk discoveries from the media.
