Regardless of the ban on claims over toxic milk formula, Mainland lawyers proceed with counselling
Just when Chinese authorities banned lawyers from counselling over toxic milk formula, Doctor of Law, Xu Zhi-Yong in Beijing told the media on the 13th of October that at least ten lawyers decided to proceed with toxic formula cases. It is a matter of wait and see as to if there will be a new official ban.
Toxic milk formulas have seriously jeopardized the lives and health of hundreds of thousands of Mainland Chinese people. Pressurized by relevant departments of the Communist regime, lawyers in various cities are forced to give up counselling over the cases. However, following blockades by the Communists on a volunteer lawyers group set up to provide legal aids, Doctor of Law in Beijing, Xu Zhi-Yong said on 13th that they decided lately to press ahead with lawsuit cases raised by families of victims. Meanwhile he had announced over the Internet hope that victims families will contact the volunteer lawyers group. He said: “Our contact details have been made public to accept cases. We have to publicly accept the commission.”
The move by Communist authorities obstructing the provision of legal aid by lawyers has been strongly criticized abroad. Hong Kong’s Ming Press said in a Monday’s editorial that the toxic milk formula is deemed as the most serious food poisoning incident since the start of rule by the Communists in 1949, endangering the lives and health of hundreds of thousands of people. Commentaries pointed out that if the regime put pressure on lawyers and courts to prevent parents of victims from raising claims, it would smash the only hope of the parents to redress their grievances, which in fact equates to punishing victims and rewarding perpetrators. It is no more than the reversion of black to while.
Mainland China’s social activist, Zeng Ning has said: “The whole community and the society’s queries over the “toxic formulas phenomenon” and its political root has been cracked down on, which shows that the source of the toxic formulas phenomenon is caused by China’s current authoritarian political system. ”
