Guangdong workers seek government redress
The world economic crisis has had an adverse effect on a large number of enterprises in Guangdong. Recently, workers in Shenzhen’s BEHRINGER manufacturer ceased production for months. The workers currently earn a monthly salary of 35 RMB Yuan. They have elected a ‘wage-petitioning team’ comprised of a thousand workers, who will appeal to the government to redress their situation.
In recent years a large number of corporate funds have disappeared from major corporations. One of the world’s largest toy manufacturers, Hejun Enterprise suddenly announced its bankruptcy recently. Hejun is a subsidiary under two large toy factories located in Zhangmutou Township of Dongwen City. Since 16th October, over 7,000 staff had petitioned the Township government for recovery of their wages.
Media circles commented that the predicament of Shenzhen BEHRINGER are common throughout Guangdong Province. If the government fails to act promptly, the situation could lead to adverse effects on the greater social order.
