Another tragedy has occurred with the forced evictions of masses of innocent people that is continuing throughout China. Early morning on the 23rd a house was set on fire by what is suspected to be an arsonist related to the forced eviction process.

An elderly family member, Fu Yan-Kang was killed in the blaze. Residents of the neighbourhood have revealed that it is the local demolition company that is directly involved in this horrible event. The next morning thousands of local residents went to voice their support to the family. The police have sealed off the area and are blocking the news from reaching the media.

According to a family member that was in the house at the time of the blaze, the fire broke out quickly and she had run up to the third floor to grab her son. Her father rung the police to inform them that their house was on fire. A local resident Miss Liang has voiced her shock and utter disbelief at the fact that the forced evictions are still happening in China and that the government is treating its people with complete disregard for their lives and basic human rights.

It is known that the local government is carrying out arbitrary demolitions in the name of constructing the Hangzhou City East Railway, which originally only required 2.3 square kilometres to be reclaimed. Now the scale has expanded to 9.3 square kilometres whereby areas that are not related to the construction of the East Rail system have now been included in the acquisition. The local authorities did not follow any legal procedures before demolishing people’s properties. Local residents have been appealing to various related departments by letters to protect their legitimate rights and interest and to protest against the already mass loss of residents throughout China.
