On December 26th in New York, during the ninth seminar of the “Flushing Forum” series entitled “Jia Yang’s Case and Social Justice”. Mr Zhang Guo-Wei, Chief of the China Central Military Academy Alumnus Association, expressed in a speech that even moderately interested Shanghai residents are now making demands for the Communist Party to step down over Yang Jia’s trial. This signals that the public’s patience has reached its threshold.

Recent revelations by some Shanghai residents, say now that the Shanghai public openly supports Yang Jia. They believe that voicing their support for Yang Jia, is also in a way helping them selves.

Zhang Jun-Ling also pointed out that now police suppression is so severe due to the backup and encouragement they receive from the Communist government.

Zhang Jun-Ling said: “If police commit crimes, the police should also be punished. Now the situation is exactly the opposite. For Shanghai local authorities, police would be blamed for being kind to petitioners, and awarded for being ferocious in oppressing petitioners, including scolding and physically assaults. So those police officers who brutally bash people and even caused deaths have been receiving awards rather than disciplined with punitive measures.”

A Shanghai petitioner pointed out that Yang Jia’s case is just a small example of the situation endured by persecuted Shanghai petitioners.
