Hong Kong’s first anti-rightist rights group, The Hong Kong May 7 Rights Society, held a press conference for the first time, in addition to introduction of the newly issued right-wing interview series book “Biography of May 7 Right-wing”. A member of the Society, Chen Yu-lin also revealed that Chinese Communist authorities have been harassing them in the process of the publication.
Chen Yu-Lin said that the May 7 Society has attracted the attention of Communist authorities. On October 13 when he returned to Shanghai to visit relatives, four National Security officers of Putuo District went to his home to investigate, and threatened Chen Yu-Lin’s son that the authorities would take measures if necessary, including restrictions across the country, restraint on departing the state and cancellation of return visa. Meanwhile he calls on Hong Kong residents to be concerned about the gradually exploited freedom of privacy, speech, publication and association in Hong Kong ruled under the “two systems in one country” by the Communists authorities.

According to Chen Yu-lin, the published book on anti-rightist campaigns collected in each volume more than 300 right-wing cases, so that there is a clearer understanding of the inside information on the brutality of the Chinese communists in persecuting its nation. Their purpose is to sort out the truth and restore history.

Chen Yu-Lin added that his decision to stand up to hold a press conference was because he feels that applying a low-key profile with the Communist Party is of no use. He expressed that he used to be very cautious, having refused media interviews on several counts, also avoidance of participation in open activities. However, the Communist Party has not let him off. He also introduced that most elderly in the May 7 Anti-rightists Campaign are leading miserable lifes.

At the meeting, another member of the May 7 Society, Chen Shi said: “The lessons learnt in the past half of a century come down to one sentence: the Communist Party is absolutely untrustworthy!”

The Hong Kong May 7 Society was established in March this year, which is the first “Anti-rightist Campaign” rights group against the Communist Party. The May 7 Society will set up its own website in November, publicizing the historical data of the “Anti-rightist Movement” launched by the Communist Party.

In 1957 “The Anti-rightists Movement” was launched in Mainland China when 550,000 intellectuals had been labelled as “rightists” with many of them persecuted to death. By 2007, the “Anti-rights Campaign” reached its fifty years of anniversary, and a lot of elderly survivors persecuted in the campaign waged civil claims for their sufferings and damage.
