Three Gorges Dam nearly reaches capacity

The Three Gorges Dam will this year store over 175 meters of water in depth. On November 4th, the water level in the dam reached 172.24 metres, less than 3 metres below the water storage target.

Local residents are concerned about the many a landslides occurring around the dam. Things are being closely monitored by related authorities.

A local resident, Mr. He, recently told reporters that he regretted initially supporting the dam.

He said, “If anything happens, it would not be a natural disaster but a human calamity, much like the Great Leap Forward in 1959. Now 172.25 metres was reached but nothing can be done. The target this year seems to be 175 metres but no one dares move. Allegedly, looking from the observation tower, landslides are everywhere.”
