News of the slow reconstruction work is still coming out of Sichuan towns stricken by the May 12 Wenchuan earthquake. With freezing winter temperatures on the way, thousands remain in tents and many are living in temporary self-made timber homes. Reconstruction work is even slower in isolated areas, and residents are relying on themselves to get through the harsh winter.
It is reported that in areas where there is no proper housing, residents are using what they can, and doing all they can to erect timber housing to pass through the cold winter.

Some residents are becoming ill with the cooling weather, and earthquake victims are feeling the strain with Beichuan’s annual snowfall.

One victim says that he hopes there is transparency on the relief efforts and reconstruction, saying that the relief funds should all be used on the victims, but there is a possibility that this will not happen. He says supervision is needed either by the government or through the media and that he has seen internet reports saying that the village chief’s home is full of relief goods.
