Foot and mouth epidemic spreading in Henan and Shandong
The Chinese Ministry of Health held an emergency news conference on the 27th of March to announce the severity of the hand foot and mouth epidemic affecting the entire nation. It has been reported that to date there are at least 41,846 children who are suffering from this disease, including 94 people in a serious condition. 18 deaths have resulted from these figures. The epidemic is most severe in the Henan and Shandong Province where 14 children have reportedly died from these 2 provinces alone.
Dr. Wang, whose true identity remains undisclosed, said that the actual number of deaths is kept secret. “The mortality rates are high because the patients are misdiagnosed by doctors, he said, and infection rates are high because the government and health department did not do their jobs properly.”
Dr. Wang also said that Doctors in China use hormone medicine to treat patients exhibiting fever because hormone drugs cover the symptoms of the disease, which in turn has led to the high rate of misdiagnosis in many patients.
According to Free Asia, areas such as Juancheng County in Shandong province have no vaccine and specific measures to prevent the spread of the disease, some rural areas have already been quarantined with all entry and exits prohibited.
