Over 100 petitioners from Shanghai went to Beijing authorities to apply for a permit to have a march on May 18th, with the appeal of asking the government to adopt the rule of law. But the Communist Party Central Disciplinary Committee and Beijing authorities rejected the application.
Many of the petitioners were force-returned to Shanghai, and the rest have been detained in Beijing.
Zhenlong Lu, one of the petitioners, told a reporter that, they went to apply for a permit on May 1st, but heard nothing back from the authorities. So over 100 of them went to apply on the 18th, and their application was rejected. According to Lu, their appeal is to have “rule and governing by law, and to protect the legitimate rights of the citizens.”

Mr. Han is another petitioner who was taken back to Shanghai by force. On the train back to Shanghai he told our reporter that, assembly, march, and protest is the basic right of the citizens, but they are deprived of such basic human rights. He felt despair and completly hopeless towards the future.

Other petitioners said, even though their application was rejected, they will continue to do the same in the future, to express their wish in a lawful manner.
