4 billion Yuan budget blow-out

On June 24th, Liu Jiayi, Auditor-General from the Chinese Communist Central Committee, admitted that the Audit Office found that 55 central departments in the Committee misappropriated over 4.05 billion Yuan when implementing the 2008 budget.

Two high profile officials deposed

In early June, two major judicial events occurred in Qingdao City in Shandong Province: Liu Mingxin, a prosecutor of the Qingdao Municipal People’s Procuratorate, suddenly died due to excess drinking; and Liu Qingfeng, vice-president of the Municipal Intermediate People’s Court, was arrested by the People’s Procuratorate of Shandong Province.

TV Station Staff Suspended for failing to censor politically sensitive information

Five staff members from Guangzhou Cable TV (GCTV) have been suspended for a “political mistake.” They apparently failed on several occasions to censor scenes related to the Tiananmen Square Massacre and the Falun Gong spiritual practice.
